"The authentic Australian Labradoodle has fallen into this category and in order to meet the criteria for breed recognition the name has had to be changed due to the confusion surrounding the Australian Labradoodle name. The authentic Australian Labradoodle is not a designer dog, and exceeds the definition of a cross breed. The 'Labradoodle' remains a cross breed, however the authentic Australian Labradoodle, with its traceable and unique DNA signature recording its origin and development, meets the criteria of a pure breed.
We are not convinced that it is in a breed or dog's best interest for it to be registered with traditional purebred registries and feel they have failed at ensuring the welfare of the dogs as a priority. It is for this reason we have chosen to use the MDBA foundation registry rather than strive for breed recognition with the ANKC/AKC. At this time we feel the focus is more in line with what is best for the dogs as well as the breed. We feel this is the way of the future. It ensures Cobbadogs can utilise a wider gene pool and use this registry regardless of which country they live in.
Both names will be used in conjunction with one another over an indeterminate period of time in order to assist with familiarisation of the new name."
